Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ v2

The ReadyNAS NV+ v2 is nicely designed and built, and Netgear's X-RAID2 technology does a good job of managing the 4-bay array discreetly. The web-based management tool's redesigned UI is an improvement, but we'd like to see more more add-ons for the new ARM-based platform.

Networking and storage vendors have been vying for the dwindling IT budgets of SMEs for some time, and Netgear is no exception. The company has just announced some additions to its rapidly-diversifying range of ReadyNAS storage devices, most important of which is the new ReadyNAS Pro range of NAS boxes.

It's been over a year since I wrote about my conversion to a Linux based digital media environment. This time I guess it's the MPAA who would be calling me a criminal, rather than the (RIAA) but other than that it's the same thing I've been doing with my music for my own enjoyment, so I don't feel bad about it.

The ReadyNAS NVX is a highly capable network storage appliance that will work equally well in a small or medium-sized business or at home. It supports a wide range of protocols and is easy to manage.

NetGear ReadyNAS NV+

Netgear's ReadyNAS NV+ does its job neatly and unobtrusively, and is well worth considering by small businesses. Most home offices will find it too noisy though.

Windows Home Server fan club beats me up for asking if WHS is Microsoft's next flop

Literally within minutes of each other (strangely coincidental), I received two e-mails -- one from a colleague and the other from someone who concealed their identity -- that basically told me I was out of line for questioning the chances that Microsoft's Windows Home Server will succeed. My colleague Shawn Morton over at sister CNET Networks property Tech Republic simply notified me that he had responded in his blog.
