Is 2008 the year of the BlackBerry-killer?

In 2005, Canadian wireless company Research in Motion (RIM) came from relative obscurity to steal a global lead in e-mail equipped mobile devices with its BlackBerry. Could 2008 be the year that BlackBerry falls off its perch?

Is Dell going to announce plans for a Google Android device at Mobile World Congress?

It has been rumored off and on through the last few years that Dell was going to launch a Windows Mobile Smartphone as a natural evolution of its foray into the PDA market with the popular Dell Axim devices. Needless to say, those Dell smartphones never arrived and the rumors just remained rumors. Well, the rumor now is that Dell may launch an Android device in partnership with Google. We already know that HTC, Motorola, and other manufacturers are onboard with the Open Handset Alliance and it is big news to hear that Dell may be joining them.

HP may be releasing new Windows Mobile devices

An HP Jornada 548 was my first Pocket PC back in 2001 and then for the next couple of years I primarily stuck with the HP line (568, 4340, 1940, etc) and was very happy with the HP Jornada and iPAQ models. HP has been quite silent in the Windows Mobile world for a couple of years, but a new post at Unwired View reveals rumors of 5 new Windows Mobile devices from HP. There are Phone Edition, Smartphone, and standalone PDA models in the collection. I was really surprised to see a non-phone model since it has been quite some time since we have seen a non-Palm PDA.

DataViz releases Documents To Go for Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone Edition

I was able to test out the new Office Mobile suite on a Windows Mobile 6 Standard device and while Office Mobile may satisfy many users who just want to view documents on their Standard device (formerly known as Smartphone) I need more functionality than this since I use my device as a full PDA replacement. Yesterday DataViz announced that the full version of >Documents To Go for Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone Edition is now available for download and purchase for US$29.99. The application is OUTSTANDING and with their InTact Technology keeping documents from getting stripped and warped this is a must have application for those who use a Windows Mobile Smartphone as their primary device. This application allows me to replace a slower Phone Edition with a snappier and more compact Smartphone device.
