Is Dell going to announce plans for a Google Android device at Mobile World Congress?

It has been rumored off and on through the last few years that Dell was going to launch a Windows Mobile Smartphone as a natural evolution of its foray into the PDA market with the popular Dell Axim devices. Needless to say, those Dell smartphones never arrived and the rumors just remained rumors. Well, the rumor now is that Dell may launch an Android device in partnership with Google. We already know that HTC, Motorola, and other manufacturers are onboard with the Open Handset Alliance and it is big news to hear that Dell may be joining them.

HP may be releasing new Windows Mobile devices

An HP Jornada 548 was my first Pocket PC back in 2001 and then for the next couple of years I primarily stuck with the HP line (568, 4340, 1940, etc) and was very happy with the HP Jornada and iPAQ models. HP has been quite silent in the Windows Mobile world for a couple of years, but a new post at Unwired View reveals rumors of 5 new Windows Mobile devices from HP. There are Phone Edition, Smartphone, and standalone PDA models in the collection. I was really surprised to see a non-phone model since it has been quite some time since we have seen a non-Palm PDA.

DataViz releases Documents To Go for Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone Edition

I was able to test out the new Office Mobile suite on a Windows Mobile 6 Standard device and while Office Mobile may satisfy many users who just want to view documents on their Standard device (formerly known as Smartphone) I need more functionality than this since I use my device as a full PDA replacement. Yesterday DataViz announced that the full version of >Documents To Go for Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone Edition is now available for download and purchase for US$29.99. The application is OUTSTANDING and with their InTact Technology keeping documents from getting stripped and warped this is a must have application for those who use a Windows Mobile Smartphone as their primary device. This application allows me to replace a slower Phone Edition with a snappier and more compact Smartphone device.

Sendo Smartphone to debut in Asia

British handset maker Sendo International will start shipping a cell phone that incorporates Microsoft's Smartphone 2002 software come September. The Sendo Z100 Smartphone will initially be available to subscribers of mobile operator CSL in Hong Kong. First announced last year, the highly anticipated device is a tri-band phone with GPRS (General Packet Radio Services) capabilities and an interface based on the Windows platform. The handset offers various features such as e-mail and Web browsing using a pocket version of Internet Explorer. It has a 176-by-220-pixel thin-film transistor screen that's capable of displaying 65,536 colors. PDA-like features found on the device, powered by an ARM9 core-based processor from Texas Instruments, include audio and video playback using Windows Media Player, file viewers for Microsoft office files, and a cradle to sync with your PC. Ernest Khoo reported from Singapore. To read the full story, visit CNETAsia.

Motorola Accompli 008

An excellent package if you want a phone with enhanced mobile communications. Compact and stylish, the Accompli overlaps with phone-equipped handhelds, against which it does not compare well.
