Zamzar launches free file conversion via email

The Zamzar website, which converts files between formats, has launched a new service: it will now convert files submitted by email. This could be particular useful to smartphone users who are often emailed files that their device is unable to display.

Google enhances Maps for Android and iPhone browsers

Google has updated its mobile browser-based mapping service, to bring it more in line with dedicated Google Maps apps for Android and iPhone.According to a blog post on Friday by Google software engineer Alireza Ali, users of those smartphone platforms are now able to see their current location — after agreeing to transmit such information to Google — and search for nearby locations with suggest and autocomplete.

RIM, Microsoft ally: BlackBerry gets Bing

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer made a surprise appearance at the BlackBerry World 2011 keynote in Orlando, Florida, and announced a new partnership between Microsoft and Research In Motion (RIM) that will make Bing the default search engine and maps provider for BlackBerry devices.
