UK companies get £500k to research internet of things

A government-funded agency is to give 10 UK companies cash to start figuring out how to make money from the rapid proliferation of internet-connected items.The Technology Strategy Board said on Wednesday that the companies, including BT, would each get up to £50,000 to "undertake preparatory studies to better understand how to move towards an application and services marketplace in the 'internet of things'".

UK cyber strategy to 'join up' security efforts

Rackspace: OpenStack threatens VMware

OpenStack is to cloud computing as Linux is to the client operating system, and it will enjoy a similar level of success, according to Rackspace's chief strategy officer Lew Moorman.Moorman told ZDNet UK on Tuesday that OpenStack, or an equivalent open-source infrastructure system like it, will be picked up to drive cloud services as it eliminates the software cost of running a basic cloud service.

LG cautious over Nokia-Microsoft Windows Phone deal

LG has reacted tentatively to Microsoft's new partnership with Nokia, which will give the Finnish handset maker much deeper input into Windows Phone's development than that allowed to other companies using the platform in their devices.At an LG press conference on Monday at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, company business strategy chief Yong-seok Jang told ZDNet UK that there "must be a strategy rationale" for the partnership, which was announced on Friday.

Green Government ICT strategy- what strategy?

Although the Green IT agenda seems to have left global centre stage for the time being (economic downturn etc), this initiative looks to have fallen foul of lack of awareness. I'm talking about something called the Greening Government ICT Strategy, developed by the UK Government Green ICT Delivery Unit of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) Council.
