Squadmail unveils shared email-folder tool

Squadmail, a service that lets users set up shared email folders that work in any client, has gone into public beta.The tool creates the shared folders at the IMAP server level, making the choice of client irrelevant.

Most file sharing in businesses is done through email, which clogs up your mail server and multiplies versions of files confusingly. SharePoint is a runaway success, but there are plenty of alternatives that don't require you to run your own servers (or find ways of making them available to external partners).

India still demanding RIM BES email access

The Indian government has not blocked BlackBerry Enterprise Server services within the country, even though Research In Motion did not meet the 31 January deadline to comply with its demands.The Indian authorities are still demanding that the BlackBerry maker provide access to corporate email services that use BlackBerry Enterprise Server, according to The Economic Times of India.

Microsoft has announced a public preview of its upcoming Windows Small Business Server (SBS) 7, available now from the Microsoft Connect website.Based on the latest 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2 platform, SBS7 is a direct follow-on from previous small business server products and, like those, includes email and collaboration servers.

Xerox unveils remote printing tools

Xerox has announced new tools for those who want to print documents from their mobile phones or other email-enabled devices.The company's Mobile Print Solution (XMPS), which will become generally available in early 2011, will let people securely email their files, such as Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF files, to their firm's private server, from which XMPS will send a confirmation code back to the user.
