Microsoft: Azure PaaS tech could be given away for free

Microsoft has an "ambition" to make some of Windows Azure's platform-as-a-service components free, after the IT giant announced sweeping changes to the service that ratcheted up its competition with Amazon Web Services.On Tuesday Microsoft's general manager for Windows Azure, Bill Hilf, told ZDNet UK that the company is contemplating making some of Azure's PaaS features free in an attempt to spur developer adoption.

Windows 8 start-up speed forces USB boot workaround

Microsoft has had to come up with a new way for Windows 8 users to boot from USB drives because the operating system's start-up time is too quick for the old method, the company has said.Since Windows 95, users have been able to press a function key such as F8 or F12 during start-up, to access advanced boot menus, debugging options and other features.
