comScore maps global search reach

According to a recent comScore survey on worldwide search activity, more than 750 million people (age 15 and older) conducted 61 billion searches in August, led by the Asia-Pacific region.Google, of course, led all search engines with more than half the searches, including 5 million on YouTube.

Survey uncovers heightening reliance on search across business purchasing

Everybody needs to be focused on search. I can’t see an exception. You mentioned the percentage that said they would go online. We segmented out the group that didn’t indicate they go online to see what was unique about them. The only thing unique about them was their age. They tended to be older buyers and tended to be with smaller organizations, where the CEO was more actively involved in the purchase decision. That was really the only variants we saw. If it’s a generational thing, then obviously that percentage is going to get smaller every year.

As a result of my success with search-based content relevancy, I was recently asked to contribute to new bog on new marketing strategies, called the Inspire Blog on smartmarketers.com. My debut entry is the first installment of a podcast discussion I recently had with IT media guru Sam Whitmore, founder and editor of Sam Whitmore's Media Survey. The entry makes the case for the power of content in search relevancy. The next installments will deal with how to actually create the content that ranks best.

For local searches 66% turn to search engines, 34% - to Yellow Pages

Search engines accounted for 66% of local searchers, while Internet Yellow Pages sites and Yellow Pages channels accounted for 34% of local searches, according to a survey by Yellow Pages Association and comScore Networks. However, those who use an online Yellow Pages are more likely to convert to buyers in five categories - automotive, financial services, drugstores, home & garden, and restaurants.
