iOS 7: Does user experience really need a reboot?

I've already railed against Apple's overhaul of iOS 7, with its jarring use of white and its over-reliance on textual Web motifs. But, as the rest of the software industry follows suit – and as Microsoft and Apple blur the boundaries between tablet and desktop user interfaces – it's worth asking if the user experience really is improving.

Google launches searching by ink ahead of Windows 8

The Handwrite setting on iOS and Android devices allows input for Google search terms by writing anywhere on the phone/tablet screen. Google has entered the input by handwriting arena, albeit in a limited fashion, ahead of the release of Windows 8 with its similar function.

Tablet sales worldwide to almost double

Worldwide tablet sales are expected to reach 118.9 million units this year, led by Apple's iOS, a Gartner report has revealed. This number is a 98 per cent increase from 2011's sales of 60 million units.
