TalkTalk 'most complained-about ISP' for fifth time

TalkTalk has maintained its position as the UK's most complained-about broadband provider for the fifth quarter running.The company beat fellow ISPs Sky, BT, Orange and Virgin to hold onto the dubious honour for the first quarter of this year, according to data published by communications regulator Ofcom on Tuesday.

TalkTalk closed off access to file-sharing website The Pirate Bay on Monday, after being told to do so by a High Court in April."TalkTalk can confirm that it is blocking access to The Pirate Bay (TPB) following a court order to do so," the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The UK government should not force ISPs to mandate opt-in porn filters, according to Google and Talk Talk.Government plans to legislate for network-level parental controls that force people to either opt-in or opt-out of pornographic and violent content "would be a mistake", and Google head of UK public policy Sarah Hunter told the Google Big Tent event on Wednesday in answer to a question from ZDNet UK.

BT and TalkTalk rapped over broadband sales info

Fewer than half of customers calling BT and TalkTalk are given accurate broadband download speed information before the point of purchase, according to telecoms watchdog Ofcom.Ofcom said on Tuesday that the overall number of people being told about the download speeds of broadband packages had improved but that there were still companies, such as BT and TalkTalk, whose customer service staff failed to provide download speed information without being prompted in more than half of all calls.

TalkTalk is still the most complained-about communications provider in the UK, Ofcom has said in its latest dissatisfaction report, although BT looks set to take top spot in next quarter's complaints league.The regulator puts these reports out on a quarterly basis, and it said on Tuesday that TalkTalk had managed to top the list every quarter in the last year, both for its fixed-line broadband and landline services.
