Korean electronics giant Samsung has launched a massive 40-inch LCD display which will go head-to-head with plasma screens, the traditional kings of the wall-mounted flat-screen world. The Syncmaster 403T TFT LCD is the largest LCD display yet to go on sale, claims Samsung.
Samsung announced a trio of new PC monitors on Monday. The SyncMaster 152T is a flat-panel TFT model with a 15-inch screen; it supports both digital and analog signals. The model is priced at $549. The new SyncMaster 763mb and 765mb are CRT (cathode-ray tube) models with 17-inch screens and three brightness modes optimized for text editing and other basic PC tasks, Internet browsing, and viewing games and TV programs. The 763mb sells for $229, and the higher-resolution 765mb goes for $249. --David Becker
The flat panel monitor market is set to boom sooner than expected according to Samsung sales and marketing director Ali Demin, despite the fact that TFT prices across the market are expected to rise by 20 per cent over the next few weeks.
Samsung will extend its UK product range next year with its own branded car. The Korean giant is also launching a 12-speed CD-ROM drive at the Electronic Retail Trade show in Birmingham next week, where it will also show prototypes of its DVD-ROM drive and TFT flat-screen monitors.
