Intel publishes reference design for home energy management panel

Intel has released its reference design for an interactive panel that is meant as a multifunction universal control panel for your home.Based on my past conversations with the company about the concept, I know that Intel is pitching the technology as a way for utility operators and device manufacturers to enable homeowners manage myriad applications, including energy usage and video surveillance.

Data in space: no one can you hear you scream

A 20-stone Panamanian DBA who fancied himself as a bit of an event data management specialist once cornered me at a developer event to talk my ears off while I was trying to beat my own personal hot dog and beer consumption record. My data-centric pal (let’s call him Pancho) beat my eardrums up about architectural design for real world retail applications that experience wild spikes in terms of data throughput once in full deployment.

Managing a web project

Advice from the coalfaceOne of the most pivotal but also most difficult jobs in the creation of a web site is the project management. I think it's difficult because the project manager has to be good with people (“client facing”), have an overview of what is technically feasible, desirable &/or achievable, and also have a design sensibility that doesn’t offend.

Key founders of Puppet have incorporated and received $2 million in venture capital funding to advance the open source configuration management software project.Reductive Labs,  which has evolved from the same named consulting firm founded in 2003, will provide training, service and support for Puppet, the next generation open source infrastructure automation framework which is reportedly gaining strength and numbers of users.
