Latest usage shares show slow adoption of Windows 8.1

Newly released figures from two popular web analytics firms show a PC market that is essentially static. Linux: No bloatware, popups, and annoyances

Just today I had to help somebody that had an annoying popup from the "HP Software Update", which would pop up about every 2 hours on his Windows XP PC. In addition, he could not get the popups to go away because his account runs as a restricted user (he would see an error saying that it could not disable them because he's not an administrator), and he did not know what to do.

Major update for Nokia E71 now available

I was reading through my feeds and stumbled upon the NokiaAddict.com site that stated there was a firmware update for the Nokia E71 available. I have the NAM (North American version) of the E71 and wasn't sure if the update was actually available since the European versions usually get the updates far earlier than the US version. I started and upgraded the Nokia Software Updater on my PC and was pleased to see there was an update available for my E71. The current firmware was shown as 100.07.76 and the new update is labeled as 200.21.118.

Nokia rolls out over-the-air firmware updates with the N78 release

As regular readers know, I spend more time on my mobile phones than I do on a PC or notebook computer so being able to use my devices without connecting them to a computer is important to me. In the past, I have always had to make sure I had a Windows PC around to update my Windows Mobile or Nokia phones, but today that has changed. As presented on the All About Symbian website, Nokia now lets you download and update your device without ever connecting it to a PC. I followed the instructions for the Nokia N78 I am evaluating and even just connected via my T-Mobile EDGE connection.
