Novatel announces new MiFi 2372 for North American GSM networks

One of the most popular mobile accessories that I have heard about from others who travel quite a bit is the Novatel Wireless MiFi. I personally have not tried one out because they have been available on Sprint and Verizon Wireless and I don't get a good enough signal where I live with these carriers to pay for another mobile data service. Novatel Wireless just announced the MiFi 2372 HSPA device that is optimized for North American GSM networks and worldwide usage with a GSM carrier. There have been unlocked ones you could pick up from an importer, but this newest model also has other features integrated into it.

Unless Vonage pursues bundled services, any Verizon settlement won't matter

Vonage says it has a workaround it will introduce in the next few weeks for two of the disputed "name translation" Verizon paents, and working on third, I think that all this buys them is time. The first two workarounds are for technologies related to email retrieval, as well as a key point int he VoIP process that connects Internet-based calls to traditional phone networks.

Hold on! Don't buy that new Sprint phone just yet

If you were thinking about buying a new Sprint phone (or even a Verizon one), you may want to hold off until their networks are fully upgraded to EV-DO. For CDMA, the technology on which both Sprint and Verizon have based their wireless data networks (as opposed to GPRS for Cingular and T-Mobile), EV-DO is the next evolutionary step beyond CDMA's most prevalent iteration (known as 1xRTT).
