Google snaps up Quickoffice and Meebo

In honor of the print edition of Encyclopedia Britannica's passing into the digital pages of the history books, we discuss new media's age old question: is print dead yet (or is it merely a walking zombie)? Craigslist has decimated a valued profit center in the world of printed newspapers. Printed books have given way to Kindle readers on every street corner. Glossy magazines are desperately trying to find new life in interactive iPad editions. Meanwhile, most specialty trade and technical publications long ago felt the need to jump to the Web. And now, despite almost of decade of Britannica's experts screaming into the wind that Wikipedia wasn't a legitimate source of educational information, Britannica's storied 244-year-old print edition gives up the ghost, due in large part to the existence of Wikipedia. HD videoconferencing arrives on tablets

Polycom has launched RealPresence Mobile, tablet-optimised software designed to plug into its telepresence products.The software, which works in conjunction with Polycom RealPresence, allows Android tablet or Apple iPad owners, to carry out HD video calls while out-and-about, rather than needing to use a desktop or far more costly bespoke telepresence room installation, the company said on Tuesday.

Walmart brings support for streaming video service Vudu to iPad, hopes it works out better than its MP3 store

Walmart has struck out battling digital music rivals, but the company hopes it has more success with Vudu, the online video service that it purchased in 2010 to compete against Netflix and iTunes. Already available on the PlayStation 3 and connected HDTV and Blu-ray players, Vudu is finally catching up to the competition by adding support for the iPad today.
