TomTom. Windows. Mac. iTunes. Audible.com. The list of closed systems that are supposedly 'verboten' to both use and mention seems endless.Wanna know something? I don't care.

Fuzzy logic won't do in tech

Earlier this week, local papers reported that access to information--on bus arrival times--used in Singapore third-party mobile apps had been cut off by the country's primary bus operator, SBS Transit. Over 10 of such apps including SG Buses, SG NextBus and ShowNearby, with a user base of 1 million, had relied on SBS Transit's Intelligence Route Information System (Iris) to provide the data.

Microsoft's implementation of email retrieval settings on Windows Phone 7 is to blame for Yahoo Mail customers using unexpectedly large amounts of data on that smartphone platform, Yahoo has said.In the latest twist to the search for culpability over the issue — some users have been consuming 25 times the data that should be needed to retrieve Yahoo Mail emails on Windows Phone 7 handsets — Yahoo said on Wednesday that Microsoft was responsible.
