Chinese PC giant Lenovo is setting up a global analytics hub based out of Singapore, as part its on-going big data initiative.
The hub will leverage the growth of online and offline data and perform in-depth analytics to drive its global business, said Lenovo in a statement on Tuesday.
The first phase of the launch will be completed by July 2013. During this stage, Lenovo will be developing the hub's framework and building the team. It will also support functional teams such as marketing intelligence and social media.
Eventually, the hub will help other Lenovo functions such as customer service, product development and global supply chain gain insights and improve services.
Lenovo's Singapore expansion comes two years after the set up of its Digital and Social Center of Excellence (DSCoE) in Singapore. That facility was aimed at strengthening its global marketing efforts by capitalizing on the growth of digital and social media.
It also follows similar plans by other industry giants to use Singapore to spearhead their big data initiatives.
Last week, Dell, Intel and Revolution Analytics opened a big data innovation center in the country. This was aimed at will providing training, proof-of-concept capabilities and solution development support on big data and predictive analytic innovations for the Asian market.
In March, EMC opened its Big Data Analytics Lab in Singapore to target small and midsize busineses (SMBs).
