Small Business: Growing Your Small Business Blog – Community Blogs! Author: Eric Everson

As most people know, in addition to being a mobile gadget guru, I am also passionate about riding motorcycles. For me this is a passion that leaped online with me in the form of BikerAwareness.com. For me, BikerAwareness.com provides a creative outlet where I can bring my love for two wheels into a new digital dimension… while also providing an undertone of motorcycle safety along the way.

The fact is whether you are a small business owner or a hobby blogger, blogging can create a wonderful platform for sharing your passions with the world. I’ve only been working on BikerAwareness.com for just over a year now and I’m amazed at the hits my blog amasses. Who would have guessed that there are millions of motorcycle enthusiasts just like me around the world that love a genuine hands-on gear review or personalized spin on the latest moto-industry news? Recently I’ve also found a great tool at Blogs.mu where individual users can create their own Blog Communities to help connect like-minded bloggers from around the world. I started http://www.Motorcycle.Blogs.mu to give it a try, so we will see how things grow.

The idea behind putting a blog about your small business (or favorite hobby/life’s passion as in my case) into a blog is to generate awareness. I’ve hosted a mobile security blog practically longer than I’ve been in the mobile security business, because it provides a great way to connect with interested readers. If you are a small business owner (online or not) a blog can be a great way to generate online awareness for what you’re doing. In one example, I recently came across a blog (http://jansartworld.blogspot.com/) where artist Jan Sullivan is using her blog to share and promote her latest work. I happen to really like Jan’s artistic style, but more importantly I think that her efforts in developing her blog are precisely the direction that many small business owners just like her are looking for.

If you are a small business owner without a blog, ask yourself what are you doing that is new, refreshing, and/or interesting and then think about how you could share that idea with the world (without revealing your trade secrets of course). There are great blogging sites like Blogger.com and WordPress.com that make starting a new blog so easy. You really do not even have to be that computer savvy to point and click your way through setting up a clean looking blog as all of the tools are right at your finger tips.

As you get started with your blog, keep the idea of blog communities in the back of your mind as this can help you connect your content with like-minded people. Every small business and entrepreneur struggles to get their brand recognized and a blog can provide an outstanding platform for sharing.

Whether you are an artist, motorcycle safety advocate, or entrepreneur, chances are someone somewhere is interested in reading your story! Why wait for the New Year, get online and get your business noticed!
