Sony Ericsson's Xperia X10 Android smartphone will go on sale in the UK in February, according to the company's website.

The handset manufacturer has not officially announced the release date for the X10, other than to say it will arrive in the first quarter of next year. On Monday, Sony Ericsson refused to confirm the information published on its own website.

The device was first announced at the start of November. Sony Ericsson's first handset to use Google's open-source mobile operating system, the X10 will also come with the manufacturer's own custom user interface.

The media-centric X10 will have a four-inch touchscreen with a WVGA resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. It will also have an eight-megapixel camera with a flash, and will run on Qualcomm's 1GHz Snapdragon chipset.
