The range-topping Sony Xperia S is now available to buy on the Three network, leap-frogging Sony's own distribution schedule.

The Xperia S, announced first at CES in January, is an Android Gingerbread-based smartphone with a 4.3-inch HD display, 12-megapixel camera and 1.5GHz dual-core processor. It also provides near field communications (NFC) functionality and comes with 32GB of internal storage.

The device is currently listed as arriving on the 14 March according to some retailers, such as Tesco, but the Xperia S went on sale on Thursday on Three's website and will be available in-store from tomorrow, a spokesman told ZDNet UK.

Despite arriving running Android 2.3, Sony has said that the device will get an update to Ice Cream Sandwich.

Sony told ZDNet UK that the device is due to "start shipping" out to retailers on Friday, meaning that it "should be in most stores by 12 March".

It will be available on Three on pay-as-you-go for £369.99 or on contracts starting from £30 per month. The phone is also available on Three's all-you-can-eat unlimited data plan from £36 per month.

The handset is also listed as "coming soon" on Orange and O2's web stores.
