Security company Sophos has promoted Stuart Fisher to the managing director position for the company in the Asia-Pacific region.

Fisher, who has been with the company for over 10 years, most recently as its vice president of sales for the same region, will now be responsible for the company's operations and business growth in Asia Pacific, except for Japan. These responsibilities are in addition to those of his existing role of leading sales, marketing and support teams for the region.

"It's an exciting time for Sophos, and the aggressive growth plans and level of investment we're injecting across Asia Pacific is significant," Fisher said.

"For me, the change in role provides even greater opportunity to further escalate Sophos' market dominance in our existing and newer emerging territories in the region, which is very appealing."

Fisher was previously vice president at SAP-owned Sybase, and held several regional-level positions with that company for the Asia-Pacific region between 2001 and 2009.

Fisher will oversee the company's activities from Singapore, and will report to Sophos senior vice president for field operations, Michael McGuinness.

Former managing director Rob Forsyth, who has also been with the company for over 10 years, will remain with the company as a non-executive director, and will be involved in marketing and publicity initiatives for Sophos.

"The time was ripe for Sophos to accelerate the growth across the region, and Stuart has the creative energy and passion for this. Over the last 15 months, Stuart has overseen the Asia-Pacific sales function, and his drive for growth has served the company, the resellers and our customers well," Forsyth said. "He has a strong and dedicated existing team, and I will be remaining in the business to support him. He has both my congratulations and best wishes."
