Splunk on Monday said it acquired Bugsense, a company that makes analytics software to track mobile device data.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Splunk, which focuses on machine to machine data analysis, said it paid cash for Bugsense.

In a statement, Splunk said Bugsense will help it analyze machine data directly from devices and then combine it with other information from sensors and IT gear. The company added that Bugsense will help it track enterprise IT and the mobile efforts underway. IT monitoring accounts for a big chunk of Splunk's revenue.

Bugsense was founded in 2011 and offers mobile app performance and quality tracking. Bugsense supports Android, iOS and Windows Phone. Here's a look at the dashboards from Bugsense:

Like Splunk, Bugsense has a freemium model and then upsells independent developers at $19 a month, a plus account at $99 a month for "demanding apps" and enterprise licenses. Bugsense was soft launched at Google I/O in 2011.

In a blog post, Bugsense CEO Panos Papadopoulos said that Splunk has the resources to grow the company.

One of the reasons the Splunk opportunity truly excites us is that we will be able to continue providing value to our existing customers. This is a key point in our choice to go forward with Splunk. With the support of the team and resources of Splunk, we’ll be able to move faster towards the realization of our vision of delivering an even better operational intelligence solution for mobile apps.
