Sydney University IT inquiry prolonged
The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has announced that it will hold further hearings for its inquiry into the appointment of the University of Sydney's (USyd) contractors, after new material surfaced on the matter.
USyd IT manager, Atilla Demiralay, is accused by the ICAC of engaging in conduct that resulted in IT contractors being hired from Succuro Recruitment — a company in which Demiralay and his wife hold an interest.
The ICAC said in a statement today that the four individuals related to the case — namely Atilla Demiralay, his wife Virgina Kantarzis, Bill Mylonas and former owner of Succuro Recruitment, Peter Kostogiannis) — will be recalled before a public inquiry to respond to "new material" presented in the investigation.
"It is expected the witnesses will be examined further and additional material put to them, regarding the role of Kantarzis in the Succuro business and company during the time that her husband was using that agency to recruit university staff," the ICAC said in a statement.
The hearing will resume on Thursday in Sydney before ICAC assistant commissioner Theresa Hamilton.
