Sydney Water has filled its previously unmanned chief information officer (CIO) post, naming Chris Ford as the successful applicant.

Sydney Water confirmed the appointment to ZDNet Australia in a brief statement this morning. Sydney Water managing director Kerry Schott welcomed Ford's appointment.

Sydney Water is importing Ford from the UK where he is presently employed as IT director for Nottingham City Council.

He previously spent 12 years in various IT positions at Severn Trent Water and also had a stint as infrastructure manager at East Midlands Electricity.

Ford will relocate from the UK, with a mid-September start date planned.

Sydney Water has been without a CIO since Tim Catley resigned his post in June.
