Tablet POS vendor Revel enables mobile payments with PayPal

New relationship will tightly integrate PayPal application into the brick-and-mortar point-of-sale solution.

Fast-growing iPad point-of-sale (POS) vendor Revel Systems has integrated PayPal mobile payment features into its platform.

As part of the relationship, PayPal's mobile application for both Apple iOS and Android is being directly connected into Revel's POS interface.

Why is this a big deal for small retailers?

For one thing, it means that those using Revel's platform will now be listed as part of PayPal's mobile app, which includes a directory of local businesses that accept PayPal. That could represent some good visibility for those companies.

In addition, the integration will also enable customers to place orders ahead of time, using the PayPal application to help cut wait times during peak store or restaurant traffic hours.

“The face of retail is changing, and with the help of Revel Systems, we are able to offer the latest mobile payment and POS technologies to our customers,” said Michael Lappert, Owner at Lappert’s Ice Cream, in a statement about the new relationship. “Through Revel’s collaboration with PayPal, we are able to expand payment, allowing us to service more customers, drive sales and manage our inventory, all through a consolidated end-to-end system. I couldn’t be more pleased with the results.”

PayPal has been working hard to extend its brick-and-mortar presence over the past year, through a mobile credit card reader (like the one offered by powerhouse Square) and through relationships with big retailers.
