With iPhone, the location services of iPhones that people have when driving is anonymously reported to Google. This data is used to construct traffic data so that wherever there is a sufficient amount of data, the map changes colors to report traffic flow there.
The result is traffic data on streets where DOT doesn't have any traffic sensors; local roads, etc.
Bing, unfortunately, is still just reporting what the DOT is telling it. Where I live, that means only the freeways and not surface streets.
Come on Bing, what's the holdup?
