The big problem with cloud applications is that your own data is only accessible through the APIs. This is miserably restrictive, you are wholly dependent on the whims of the application programmers of your software provider.
Modern relational DBMSs rendered APIs obsolete more than 20 years ago.
The whole point of modern systems is to be able to access your data in whatever way you want to access it.
APIs are restrictive and frequently perform abysmally.
Do not accept software that only offers APIs, you are buying an obsolete and unmanageable product.
