The PM's remark was indefensible. The problem with "off the cuff remarks" is they show what you REALLY think, and that might not jive too well with your public image.
Perhaps the PM would do well to find out a little more about conditions like these, and meet people who have them. Maybe then he'd be less dismissive of them, and see past his prejudices to the people behind these labels.
