More than the accuracy of our personalities online, it's important to understand how our personalities are shaped online via user and design interface. We certainly don't go around constantly thinking of funny one-liners or face the compulsion to share, RT, link, click and explore news and information offline, the way we do it online. Offline, extroverts will continue to chatter, talk non-stop and share life events rather than "news", which is something very peculiar to social media networks.

A system of interaction that is based solely on textual communication, static emoticons, asynchronous chats and no clearly defined framework for response can impact a person's online personality and influence their offline selves too.

Crucially, this online/offline debate needs rethinking. They are hybrid personalities. Sometimes, the way we talk online seeps into "real life" speech. There are other performative behaviors offline that take over our online footprints.
