@A Grain of Salt, Amazon doesn't have to market it as being an Android device for it to be an Android device. You need to be an Android developer to write programs for it, and those programs run on the Fire, the Xoom, Galaxy S phones, and any other 2.3.3 and higher devices. It's certainly not a "Google" device, lacking Google Map, GMail, Market, and so on (although you can put them on if you know what you're doing), but it's definitely Android.
