@JeveSobs: Check out Facebook's Privacy settings. You'll find they're very granular.
You may not also realise but Facebook Messages are completely private. If you mean Facebook can read them, I imagine Google and Microsoft can read my Gmail and Hotmail e-mails if they're that interested.
What would you want to turn off exactly? Just don't add the account to start with.
p.s - You'll find Facebook Messenger rivals the likes of Gmail and Hotmail for popularity of online mail communication.
