Please have a look at OpenSAM (Open Simple Ajax Mashup) - www.opensam.org. This is a new SaaS ecosystem based on open Internet standards with goals to (1) make it easy for end-users to share documents/content for mash-ups across a variety of online office applications with a single login; and (2) make it easy for app developers to achieve "speed to value" that you are referring to - i.e., make it quick (i.e., days or weeks vs. months or years) to combine one or more online office apps into a "sum greater than its parts". The focus is on open mash-ups standards to connect collaboration, document management, CRM, office productivity apps, etc.
