In the early 70's the hospital where my
wife worked got the first ultrasound in the
state. Since my wife was rather far along
in her pregnancy (and was a friend of the
PhD in charge of the research he ran down
and told her she had to come up
immediately. Actually she waited until she
finished treating a patient (she's a Physical
Therapist) and then went upstairs to be
the first to get the ultrasound.
She brought the Polaroid image home -
just a bunch of splotches showing a rough
outline of the head and body. A lot
different than what is available today.
Imaging is only going to continue to
improve, especially as related computer
equipment is designed to do even more.
How important is addition of magnets and
what other technologies are available? I
would hate to have the tiny magnets, say,
be able to pass through the brain barrier.
