IBM is the only company out there whose hardware is capable of supporting VM in the real world
When you run enough Virtual machines to justify the expense of VM software and gain the advantage of fewer boxes, the I/O is likely to kill you unless the virtual machines are not doing I/O, and that's not very likely.
