Jonathan, great post I enjoyed reading it and do agree that
there's a bit of a social media echo chamber. However, I'd
like to suggest that social media consultants/evangelists/
aren't that isolated from the rest of the digital space. In
fact, many of us who have spent more than a decade in
interactive working for companies like Avenue A |
Razorfish, Organic, Scient, Viant etc. understand social
media and educate our clients on it too. We're sitting
inside those ad agencies or digital agencies that you talk
of. Just because we may not be talking about it all the time
in the social space, doesn't mean that we're not clued in.

Something else to consider is that the larger an
organization is, employees spend more time
communicating with each other (internally) and with their
clients directly and less time to the outside world. That's
very much the case at Avenue A | Razorfish. We're building
communities, experimenting, educating and debating - its
not just not in the public sphere which is why to an outside
r it may appear that we're not doing that much!
