My OLPC also has a grey scale display readable in full sunlight. Plus it has a backlikghted full-color scree for dim-light use I suspect i could download books to it using either its built in browser or a firefox activity (application) that is available.
Unfortunately they are not on the market. If they were they would cost about $200.00. They can be obtained through (ugh) E-bay.
Kindle just sounds like another overchoice of stuff.
