Why is it a crime to view information that you have access to? The mere act of accessing information to which you have access, with or without a business purpose, should not be a crime. An invasion of privacy occurs only if you disseminate the information. By analogy, if I live next door to Britney Spears, it is no breach of privacy for me to see her in her backyard. The breach occurs if I photograph her and sell the photos to a tabloid.
