The problem is the big lag time in development and deployment of Sharepoint. Since it is tied into the office products and supports lots of legacy systems, it takes a long time to develop at Microsoft.
You are talking about the 2007 version of Sharepoint, which probably had most of its features locked back in 2004, well before McAfee's SLATES paradigm. Sharepoint actually looks pretty good for 2004.
But its not 2004 any more. The marketplace has moved ahead.
The next version of SharePoint will have the same problem. It will look pretty good for 2008. But when it comes out in 2010, it will already be dated and behind the curve.
