The old adage that "you can do anything with Microsoft
products - as long as you are prepared to sit down and
write code" is still oh, so true with Sharepoint. The out of
the box capability is limited and fragmented/disjointed.

The capabilities of features like wikis and blogs, while
there in the product are not much short of a joke in terms
of functionality.

Building solutions in Sharepoint without resorting to
development in Sharepoint designer is a frustrating
experience that leaves you wanting. For example, the
calculated fields in a list can't use fields looked up in
another list. You can't do a lookup in a list and return an
associated value. I am sure plenty of people will jump to
SharePoint's defense saying that these things can be done.
My point is that they don't appear to be possible without
resorting to writing custom code.

SharePoint is really a development platform that is often
used as a glorified shared drive to store documents.
