His foundation has helped pay for and coordinate
existing efforts to eradicate diseases and such. That
in no way diminishes previous efforts, it enhances
them. I would welcome any additional funding for my
work (mine won't save a single life, btw), how about
you?

Also, isn't it in the best interest of a company to
become a monopoly? Isn't that the ultimate success
story?

Business is ugly and heartless, perhaps that's why the
enormously successful turn to philanthropic efforts
later in life. I don't think it's done out of guilt,
but I imagine it feels mighty good to affect change
for the greater good, however one might define that.
