Apparently the best energy conversion process
would be to emulate what plants do. What is
the energy efficiency of grassland, swampland,
forest. oceans, freshwater lakes, Algae ponds,
etc.?
I would imagine that grassland or algae ponds
would be the most efficient. Then the issue
becomes the costs of growing, harvesting and
conversion to fuels.
Why not just genetically engineer grass or
algae to produce a high content of sugar, which
is easily converted to ethyl alcohol which is a
suitable fuel. This would be far more
efficient than growing corn for fuel, as most
of the plant is discarded and only the seed is
converted to fuel. Sugar cane is a natural step
in that direction that could be improved upon.
