Dion, great post. I agree that the companies who focus on and succeed at opening up their data will be the winners. You mention WOA, Open APIs and the Semantic Web as being key enablers of open data, but it will take a long time before this get implemented into the ?long tail? of web-sites, if ever. Therefore I?d argue that web data services should also be added to the list for its ability to automate the access to any data you can see in a browser. This means that you don?t have to wait for open API?s, but can access the data right now today, as long as you can navigate to them and work with them in a normal web browser.
