These are very high minded concepts but were is the responsibility in all of the hype?
Data privacy, security and ownership have not been addressed by most of the market players or by society at large.
These types of business models have been largely left alone because there are easier targets for data thieves. If these business models do become the normal, how is the data going to be secured? Who will hold the liability for unprecedented data exposure? Will the consumers of these models have any rights to the data they provide?
Every article I have read on this seems to ignore these things because they can't or won't address them.
A good rule of thumb, anything put on the Internet in any way, shape or form is public domain. If you think that every blog, file, e-mail, or media you place on the Internet can be seen by anyone at anytime, you have a pretty good handle on the realities of the situation and can act accordingly.
Do you really think A.I.G. wants their financial records published on Twitter? Of course not, but if they store their data in the cloud, some hacker with problem with A.I.G. will expose them and all of their fat cat bonuses.
I would like to be on the web but I truly understand that it isn't secure to be there yet.
