Reason is simple. It costs more energy to make them, than alternative energy sources.
Same with those hybrid cars. If people stopped being blind, and take the 'whole life' concept of the car, they would see that it costs more money - and generates more pollution to make and maintain a hybrid car, then a regular car. Oh btw I'm sure someone will be happy to store my old hybrid car batteries on their lawn, when they need replacing. Nice stuff, those acids and chemicals in those batteries.
