Contradictory

"Some CIOs have turned to cloud computing and SaaS as a financial ?quick fix? in some cases, but there?s a growing realization that SaaS offerings have met a level of functional maturity to compete head-on with many traditional offerings at an enterprise level."

Wouldn't this imply that SaaS is only transitional technology for something else? Maybe it's just the word choice, but a "mature" application to me implies one that, while more stable and standardized, has essentially achieved all that it is capable of. For example, Windows XP is a "mature" Operating system, it is still supported but developmentally complete. If SaaS is developmentally complete, then it still falls a little short of the mark of enterprise applications.

I'm not saying I agree with that assessment necessarily, SaaS certainly has it's place in the market. It is just that this particular segment from the article seems contradictory and the article as a whole less enthusiastic then the title would imply.
