Apple needs [U|Li]N[I|U]X/BSD since OSX is largely built on FreeBSD + a pretty skin.

Microsoft actually doesn't want or need UNIX but is more than happy to help you operate, manage, virtualize and/or migrate your UNIX-derived infrastructure should you so wish.
