Did you read the article? Amazon is allowing it to become a standard, so,

there will be multiple vendors offering the
service. There is already an open source solution
(Eucalyptus).

Amazon will have to compete on the merits. That
said, we need to hold Amazon's feet to the fire
early on, and make sure everything is freely re-
implementable by third parties with no license
necessary.
