There is absolutely no reason why you should lose access to your freaking contacts simply because the phone cannot connect to the data network. This isn't only an issue when the network goes down (as it is now), it's an issue when you are out of range of the network. So if you have a spotty data connection but your phone works otherwise, you better have the number you want to dial memorized or available on some other device, because you'll have to manually dial the number. No other phone I know does this, and it is a crappy model to follow.
