Microsoft has to do better than this..

Microsoft is already starting the online game at a disadvantage - they don't get free rides at press events, heavy scrutinization, and brand name that is usually laughed at, and so on.

Microsoft has to learn that with anything online (Bing, Danger/Sidekick, Azure, etc.), it can't afford to be as good as Google or Yahoo - it has to be 5 times better in order to get a somewhat decent perception.

It's good they acknowledged the error and worked on a fix quickly. But they can't keep this happening - we'll be hearing about thie 45 minute outage for a long time, even if it never happens again.

Another thing they could do is figuring out what happened, letting everyone in the public know WHY it happened, and, most importantly, how it won't happen again. Only through transparency will Microsoft start to regain some public trust.
