Is it email that's outdated or common email?
privacyharbor 18th Dec 2009
I think having Internet users resort to choosing between Microsoft or Google for online communication solutions or simply switching over to the cloud model aren't solutions to the problem of antiquated email services so much as they are other options that don't necessary provide the best high quality, safe and private solution for web communications.

Privacy is becoming more and more of an issue on the Internet today, not just with common email providers like Gmail, Hotmail and Y-Mail having user information exposed or allowing their marketing partners to harvest data for advertising, but also with social media services like Facebook exposing user information while not providing adequate privacy settings and guarantees.

The Internet and common email weren't designed with the consumer or small business's privacy, security or needs in mind, instead they have become a money-making device for big business to mine the data of others, often without consent in order to offer marketing partners an avenue for targeting consumers through tailored advertisements. These common services and even cloud computing also can leave users vulnerable to hackers, scams, spammers and identity theft or unauthorized sharing of sensitive information.

More stress should be put on making our existing technologies better, safer, and more private.

Private email, for example, offers private and secure communications free from spam, viruses, scams, invasions of privacy, ads and data mining, and identity theft. In many cases it is free like Gmail and others while providing a private platform that often has more storage space and more features than common email services.
