I couldn't agree more with your post. In an enterprise (or any large business setting) content without its process context is missing the point.

Here at ActionBase we took your advice (though before you gave it:) about "What?s wrong with using tried and tested solutions that already solve the problem, augmenting where necessary?"
After working for quite a while on solutions for managing unstructured, ad-hoc, human processes (and complex projects) our customers came back to us and said: leverage the tools we normally use anyway for our unstructured processes - email and documents. So we augmented email and documents (Outlook and Office) to provide visibility, monitoring and management of unstructured processes. You can find out more about how we do it at www.actionbase.com
